What's m2m?
Machine-to-machine, which is usually referred to as "m2m", enables machines, vehicles and people, to connect and communicate, exchange information and carry out operations automatically, with no human intervention.
Any machine, vehicle, device, plant, mechanical, electrical and electronical machine can dialogue with others: machine-to-machine is the eco-system consisting of all systems, technologies, service, software and hardware which enable those communications.
Today there are some 50 billion machines, worldwide: each one of them is interested to be networked, while the planet is inhabited by 6 billion human beings.
The Economist reports that connections may rise up to 200 billion dollars in the period 2007-2011. Harbor Research expects worldwide device-related revenue streams excess of $250 billion by 2010.
The potentialities for new specific applications are huge.
